Abdullah M. Shamsid-Deen Sunset: September 4, 2017
On a sunny day in March, a wonderful baby boy was born to James Nelson Goodson and Rozener Goodson. They named him Hermon Charles Goodson.
He was the fourth born child and joined 2 brothers, James Clarence and Leon (Asadi Shamsid-deen), and 1 sister JoAnn Goodson.
He completed his high school education in the Job Corps, which provided him the foundation to create a future life of success embracing multiple fields of employment. After Job Corps’ training he decided to give back to his country and joined the Marine Corps and served for 3 years.
A person who understood that life accomplishments depended on education, he later took advantage of the GI Bill and received under-graduate education in several colleges and universities. He understood that education improved life capabilities and worth.
His employment history was a representation of his many skills and abilities. He began his professional journey with DART as a bus driver, moved from that position in a more prosperous and responsible position as a Transportation Supervisor with Kroger. There he remained until his early retirement in 2001.
In his life journey to discover his true self, he was a follower of the teachings of the Nation of Islam under the leadership of Elijah Muhammad and chose the name of Abdullah Shamsid-Deen. This name represented his discovered value of himself as a,”Servant of God- Sun of Religion”. He was a dedicated believer and devout Muslim who has transcended into after-life cherishing those views.
In his final years, he received great pleasure from his grand-son Zachary who lovingly referred to him as PA-PA. They shared a beautiful and supportive relationship, PA-PA was Zachary’s ears and Zachary was PA-PA’s eyes. Zachary was like rays of sunlight to PA-PA and their depth of love for each other was undeniable.
Last but not least, he married his beautiful and loving wife, Linda Dyer and they enjoyed the love and happiness they shared throughout the years together.
Abdullah’s body entered this world to begin a beautiful and enjoyable life that ended on September 4, 2017.
Abdullah has gone to join his family members Rozener Goodson (mother), James Nelson Goodson (father) James Clarence Goodson, and Kenneth Goodson (brothers) in eternal rest. We know that he was welcomed with open arms and love for the reunion.
