Barbara Jeanne (Walls) Zachary was born July
16th, 1943, to Bertha Spriggs at Freedom’s
Hospital in Washington D.C. She was
raised by Anderson and Bernice Walls in College Park,
Maryland. She graduated from Fairmont Heights High
School, then later attended Bowie State College, later
moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Years later, in
September 1980, Barbara met and married Lamon
Zachary, Jr. and the two moved to Dallas, Texas. While
in Dallas, she worked at Verizon until 2009 when she
retired, she was also the Area Vice President of the Dallas
office of the Local CWA 6171.
Barbara loved the Lord and was known for her
beautiful smile, sense of humor, laughter, and joyous
spirit. She was also known for her kindness, wisdom and
advice; many called her Madea.
She was preceded in death by her grandson,
Jeffrey Walls.
Those remaining to cherish her loving memories
include her husband, Lamon Zachary, Jr.; two daughters,
Sonya Walls, Alfreda Miller; son, Victor Zachary;
four grandchildren, Calvina Walls McGhee, Douglas
Anderson Walls, Briana Miller and Devon Stanley; six
great-grandchildren, Jordan Briggs, Sanaa Briggs, Jakala
Cox, Gabrielle Walls, Landon Walls and Kameron Walls;
two brothers, James “Jimmy” S. Thorton and Douglas
“PeeWee” Walls; two sisters, Catherine “Mick” Callahan
and Opal Gregoire; nieces, Kathleen Lawson Niblack
and June Lawson Robinson; two great-nieces, Tyra
Niblack and Autumn Mason; nephews, Phillip Niblack
and Roderick Gregoire; best friend, Paula Wells; as well
as a host of other in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends.
