Bertha Thomas

Bertha Mae (Banks) Williams-Thomas born to Kissie Sanders and L. B. Banks on August 21, 1934 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Bertha was the second child born in this union. Three brothers (Jame L. Mosley, Issac Turner, and Joe Thomas) preceeded her death as well as her parents. She left school early to assist in raising her siblings. She attended Booker T. Washington until the 11th grade.
Bertha started working at an early age. Later on Bertha Mae married Joe Henry Williams, Sr., and unto this union three children were born: two sons (Sylvester Williams and Joe Henry Williams, Jr) and one daughter (Carolyn Ann Williams). Her daughter preceeded her in death. Bertha Mae married Gene Thomas (xxxx). They remained happily married until his death in 1997. After his death, she remained a widow until God called her home.
Bertha served as a domestic engineer for the Wagner family. She served in this position for approximately 40 years until retirement.
Bertha accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 35, under the pastorage of Reverend S.T. Tutson of Riverside Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. As a faithful disciple of Riverside, she served as a member of the choir, the Mission 1, and the Nurse’s Guild. She remained a faithful disciple and servant of these ministries until her health began to fail.
She leaves in God’s care her two sons: Sylvester and Joe Williams, Jr. (Dr. & Evangelist Cathy) of Dallas, TX; four granddaughters: Teresa Flowers, Asia Webb, La Tasha Williams, and Krystal Williams; one grandson: Christopher Phillips; two great-granddaughters: Jasmine Williams  and Essence Moore; four stepsons: Gene Aurty Williams (who preceeded her in death), Rickey Joe Williams, Jerry  Eugene Williams, and Tommy Joe Williams.

A special niece Kemmerly Beckham; and a special cousin Terri Williams.

Four best friends: Cousins I. C. & Lizzie Mae Williams;  and Sam & Betty Sneed; and a host of nephews, neices, cousin, and friends.
