Mr. Charlie Sanders was born July 4, 1917 to the union of John
Sanders and Susie Hicks, in Bristol, Texas. He was the first of two children
born to this matrimony. He united in holy matrimony to Lela B. Jackson.
He was educated in Ellis County Independent School District. Attended
Elite Business School, enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corp. (Project
Relief-San Antonio, Texas, and served in the United States Army.)
On July 16, 1948, Charlie Sanders, affectionately known as "Charlie"
married Lela B. Jackson. This union of love and commitment would last
over 50 years. He loved, reared and nurtured 3 wonderful children: Lela
Mae, Tony and Charles Edward. His wife, Lela B., and two children, Tony
and Charles Edward, preceded him in death. Also, he was preceded in
death by his parents John and Susie, and one brother, Ellis Sanders.
His long Christian journey began when he was only 12 years old. His
grandfather, "Papa" was a minister. Upon moving to Dallas, he united with
True Light Baptist Church and Chapel Hill Freewill Missionary Baptist
Church. For many years he served as Sunday School Teacher, and Men's
Brotherhood. He also served with Fireside Chat Group Christian Ministry.
For many years he and Brother James Mencie, Brother Edale Higgins,
and Rev. Landra Johnson covered my areas in Dallas County ministering
the gospel. For many years, he was a member of Salvation Army Senior
Center. Seasoned with godly wisdom, knowledge and understanding, he
shared experiences and life skills as a mentor and instructor to young
people. His much service to mankind and the community will be greatly
missed.
Those he leaves to cherish his memories are: Lela M. Taylor,(Elder
Emmitt J.) daughter, Clarksville, Texas, Maggie Pearl Williams, sister-in-
law, Corsicana, Texas, Linda Sanders, daughter-in-law, Dallas, Texas,
seven (7) grandchildren: Darron Sr., Charlotte (Raymond), Charvela (Gary),
Charlondria, Charcacia, Quinette, and Daniel; 6 great grandchildren: Darron
Jr, Deosha, Daniel, Andrea, Marcus, Makala, Ahmir, Onree, Cavalyn, 3
great-great grandchildren: Charles, Daniel and Kadon, and a host of nieces,
nephews, Christian brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, relatives and friends.
