Clarence Hudell Oliver was born in Dallas, Texas on January 8, 1952, to the proud parents of Clare Mae (Winn) and Henry Eugene Oliver, who preceded him in death. Clarence confessed Jesus Christ, as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was confirmed and baptized at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as a youth member and into adulthood.
Clarence attended Dallas Public Schools and graduated from L. G. Pinkston High School in 1970. He was a star quarterback for the mighty black and gold Vikings football team. He had many heroic passes and used his scrambling ability to win many games. He served in the United States Air Force as an Inventory Specialist, after high school. Following his stint in the Air Force, he attended Bishop College and majored in music.
He met the love of his life, Shirley Green, in 1975. Clarence and Shirley were united in holy matrimony on May 7, 1983, officiated by Rev. Dr. Ronald D. Henderson. Then the Apple of their eyes, Ciji Yvette, the only child born to this union, became the center of their world in 1984. Clarence was blessed with two children prior to his marriage to Shirley.
Clarence enjoyed many hobbies and some of his interests included: a sharpshooter photographer, mixologist extraordinaire, self-taught keyboard enthusiast; and he loved all genres of music - jazz, soul, and gospel. He enjoyed dancing, playing backgammon and dominoes and loved to shop. Clarence was a dapper dresser and a lover of hats.
Though he loved and was committed to his family, his most important commitment was his unwavering love to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He well understood that his steps were ordered by God throughout each day of his life. He loved his church and faithfully served in the Intergenerational and Chancel choirs and the Male chorus. He further served as Lay Leader and as an usher, until his health started to fail him.
On Wednesday morning, October 30th, at 5:38am, God sent His angels to escort Clarence through the Heavenly Gates, where he will reside in his new home.
Clarence leaves to cherish his precious memory, his devoted wife, Shirley, loving daughters, Ciji Oliver Winfield and LaRhonda Roberts; son, Derrick Oliver; cherished grandsons, Jayden, Jeremiah and Jah’siah Winfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter and Sonya Green; Willie Mae Hardeman, godmother; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
