DELORIS DIVERNA SCOTT WAS BORN TO JONAS AND MADIE JONES ON MARCH 26, 1930, DOUCETTE, TEXAS. DELORIS WAS THE YOUNGEST OF FOUR CHILDREN. PRECEDING HER IN DEATH ARE SIBLINGS LUCY BEALE AND SAMUEL KING, SR.
DELORIS GRADUATED FROM BOOKER T. WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL IN 1954. SHE RECEIVED HER DEGREE FROM SOUTHWEST SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION ON MAY 29, 1958.
A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF DALLAS, AT AGE EIGHTEEN, SHE MARRIED WILLIE LEE SCOTT, WHO PRECEDED HER IN DEATH (1976). OUT OF THIS UNION WERE BORN TWO CHILDREN: NATHAN L. SCOTT AND PATRICIA SCOTT-JAMES.
DELORIS WAS A LONG TIME MEMBER OF MUNGER AVENUE BAPTIST CHURCH OF DALLAS.
AFTER THIRTY-TWO YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE WITH THE DALLAS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, DELORIS RETIRED IN 1993. DURING HER EMPLOYMENT WITH DISD SHE MADE NUMEROUS FRIENDS, RECEIVED SEVERAL AWARDS AND TOUCHED THE LIVES IF MANY STUDENTS.
DELORIS ENJOYED TRAVELING. LISTENING TO GOSPEL AND WATCHING OLD MOVIES, HER FAVORITE MOVIE WAS: ?IMITATION OF LIFE?.
DELORIS CHERISHED AND HONORED HER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, SERVING FAMILY AND FRIENDS, ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP OTHERS.
DELORIS WENT HOME ON JANUARY 8TH, THE BIBLICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NUMBER EIGHT IS ASSOCIATED RESURRECTION AND REGENERATION, THEREFORE SYMBOLISHING THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ORDER. OUR LOVED ONE BEGAN A NEW JOURNEY OF SPIRITUAL LIFE WITH OUR LORD.
DELORIS IS SURVIVED BY HER BROTHER, JOHN W. KING, SR, SON NATHAN (SHEILA) SCOTT, DAUGHTER PATRICIA (WYNESTER) JAMES, TEN GRANDCHILDREN: BRIAN SCOTT, EMANUEL SCOTT, VERNIKA SCOTT, DAVID SCOTT, KENYA SCOTT (DECEASED), JAVARRO SCOTT, NATALIE SCOTT, TIFFANY STEVENS, LOGAN SCOTT AND KARMEN (STEFAN) GARDNER; TWENTY-ONE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A GREAT GREAT GRANDSON, AND A HOST OF NIECES, NEPHEWS, COUSINS AND FRIENDS.
