EVANGELIST DOROTHY MODDON was born October 11, 1934, in Nacogdoches, Texas to Henry and Katherine Finley. She was raised with her six siblings.
Dorothy Moddon accepted Christ in 1950 at the age of 16 at Holiness Church of God in Christ in Honey Island, TX. Later that year she married the love of her life, Add Moddon, in Honey Island, TX on October 18, 1950. From this union they had eight children.
Dorothy and her late husband, Add, started their own church Lively Stone Church of God in Christ in 1995. During her time as first lady, she also was an evangelist, played the keyboard at church and helped sing in the church choir. She was also a Chaplin at her local hospital.
Dorothy received a chef certification from El Centro College and received a nursing certification early on in life. Dorothy had her own business, Dot’s Cleaning Service for 20 years.
Dorothy was called to be a missionary for the Lord. She lived out this mission daily by witnessing to others. Dorothy attended Richland College in her late 70s to learn how to use the computer so that she could be a witness for the Lord on Facebook. Most recently at the age of 84, Dorothy took “Prayer that Works” class at Koinonia Christian Class.
Dorothy had many hobbies which included working out at the local gym and hanging out with her sister, Doshie Green Hunter.
Dorothy departed this life on July 29, 2021, surrounded by her family.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her sister, Doshie Green Hunter. Eight children Shirley, Johnny (Sandra), Rose Katharyn, Sandra Gail, David Sr. (LaWanda), Cynthia, Richard and Doretha (Sam),
Twenty-three grandchildren Darian, Taletha, Steven Jr., Jabari, Jonika, Marcus (Ayanna), Nyiesa, Jeantisha, Sondra, LaSonja, Kara, LaMetra (Darryl), Dorothea (Joe Jr.), Jeremi, Jamaric (Shae), David Jr., Courtney, Daviauna, Christian, Tiva (Chad), Mark Jr. (Tasha), Richard Jr. and Destiny.
Forty-five great-grandchildren, Eight great great-grandchildren and four granddogs.
Evangelist Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Katherine Finley, her husband (Pastor Add Moddon), her siblings (Wyatt Finley, Elzora Finley Polk, Vinnie Manzay, John Finley) and son-in-law (Mark Tuck Sr.).
