Edward Boyd Jr.

August 21, 1947 — October 22, 2020

Grand Prairie

Born:  August 21, 1947

Died:  October 22, 2020

Edward Robert Boyd, Jr. was born on August 21, 1947 in Dixie, Louisiana to the late Edward and Exie B. Boyd.

He confessed Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.  He later attended and joined several other churches in the Shreveport, LA area.

He was a graduate of Herndon High School in 1965.  After graduation, he enlisted into the US Army and served from 1965 through 1968.  He spent the majority of his military tenure in Germany.

He worked for the City of Shreveport Water Dept for over 20 years until his retirement.  Shortly after, he joined the Caddo Sheriff Department and worked there until his health started to decline.

Edward was commonly known as “Bey.”  He was very compassionate about his Cooper Road neighborhood and he cared for all the neighbors.  He was known as the neighborhood watchman where he lived.  It was not out of the ordinary for him to walk the neighborhood, day and night, to ensure everyone’s safety.  Bey loved to barbeque and he did not mind sharing his delicious food with others.  He loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own children.  Bey was definitely a “flirt” so he had a host of female companions.

He was an avid diehard fan of the New Orleans Saints football team.  He loved all genres of music and he amazed us with his knowledge of song titles and artists.  Even when dementia started to rob him of his memory, he could still name the artist and title of a song when he heard it.  Dementia may have stolen many things from him, but his love for music and the New Orleans Saints was not one of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Exie B. Boyd, his sister

Ethel Mae Boyd Henderson, brother, Leicester Taylor and his niece, Danita Henderson.

He leaves to cherish his memories:  Two sons, Edward Robert Boyd, III and Jerald DeWayne Boyd (Andrea).  Although he never had any biological daughters, he cherished his daughter-in-law, Valerie Boyd, and considered her as a daughter.  He also had seven grandchildren and five bonus grand children, two great-grandchildren, five bonus great-grandchildren, a special friend, Mike Gardner (Lynn) and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
