Elsie Waddleton-Finley

Elsie Waddleton-Finley of Dallas, Texas was born to Oran Waddleton and Ethel Johnson-Waddleton in Winnsboro, Texas on April 29, 1928. She was one of twelve children, five of whom preceded her in death. She was called to glory on October 9, 2024, while living at home and under loving care. Elsie was 96 years of age.

Elsie‘s education includes high school and college graduations. She received an undergraduate degree in home economics and a master’s degree in special education. She was very creative and had a natural ability in designing clothing and sewing them for loved ones. She loved gardening, and seeing plants grow. She enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles, traveling, and studying the Holy Christian word. Elsie enjoyed seeing people succeed and was often an encourager to many. 

Having a wonderful career as an educator in the Dallas Independent School District for 32 years, Elsie retired in 1988. In 2001 she earned a place on the Dean’s list, receiving a certificate in Bible studies from a local Christian Institute.

Elsie had one child, a daughter, from a previous marriage. She eventually met and married Reverend J.J. Finley, Sr., which formed a blended family, adding his son. Both husband and son preceded her in death.

After the death of her husband, Elsie continued to be active in church. She eventually joined Daily Bread Baptist church and was blessed to continue membership until her death.

Elsie has a wonderful, blended family of five grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She loved each one dearly.

Elsie had a quiet demeanor and displayed a non-wavering passion for peace. First Corinthians 13:13 states “….but the greatest of these is love.” This is how she lived her life and love was prominent and palpable.
