Emma Taylor Jernigan, 93, passed away peacefully July 25, 2022. She was born on November 22, 1928, in Shreveport, LA to Eligah Jernigan and Lorine Robinson.
Emma grew up in Shreveport, LA and relocated to Dallas, TX in 1952, where she developed friendships. She later united with True Believers Baptist Church and was a faithful member.
Emma enjoyed “lies” (soap operas), puzzles, solitaire, traveling, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. She also received much praise from individuals as she touched and brought value to their lives.
Emma was a great mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, and friend. She loved her family. She was charismatic, outspoken, sharp with exceptional memory, very giving, financially savvy and loved helping others. Emma had wit, a sense of humor and was a great confidant; you could talk to her about anything, and she provided a lot of wisdom.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, son, Willie Jernigan, siblings, Susie Mae McCaplin, Doris Ann Gooden, Jene Knighten, Melvin Gooden, Maurice Gooden, and Johnnie Gooden, and grandson Charles Wallace, great-grand Oxford Foster.
Emma is survived by; her daughters, Lola Tatum of Shreveport, LA and Barbara Jernigan of Garland, TX; sisters, Glory D. McKnight of Shreveport, LA, Glennie Gooden Henderson of Snellville, GA, and Ida Lynch of Woodbridge, VA; brother, Robert Gooden of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Lisa Garza (Albert), Willie Hicks (Cynthia), John Foster, Thomas D. Knight, Lorraine Rogers (Anthony), Teresa Foster, Shalonda Jernigan, Catrina Holmes (Acey) and Tanya Jahwar; great-grandchildren, Alexis & Briana Marshall, Antonio & Armon Rogers, Shundra Mack, John Jr. & Daralyn Foster, Charles Jr. & Cory Wallace, l’Cherel, Xaria, Tiara, Domnique & Tia Hicks, Crishara Ariza, Antwuan Johnson, BillyRay Williams III, Desmond Williams, Antroinette Jones, Eboni Pipkin, Omar & Tabia Jahwar. Emma also leaves memories to a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Emma also had a special bond with the Hale family that includes Steve, Holly, Devorah, Lilly, and others.
