Freddy Joe Mitchell

November 25, 1954 — March 1, 2025

Freddy Joe Mitchell, who was born on November 25, 1954 to Harry Mitchell (Sr.) and Ruby Jones Mitchell, lived a simple but relatively carefree life full of love, laughter, and dedication. Raised in a family that taught the values of hard work and community, he graduated from L.G. Pinkston High School, Class of 1973, setting the stage for a future filled with purpose, lifelong connections and adventure.

He attended truck driving school a few years after graduating from Pinkston H.S. He did so well at the truck-driving academy that they hired him as a assistant instructor. He received his CDL. He then went to work for Jones Trucking (family business) as a dump truck driver for a number of years. He then went work at Airborn Connectors with his brother Harry and cousin Vassie as a quality control inspector. However his passion for truck driving never fully left his mindset so he started his final adventure driving 18-wheeler LTL refrigerated trucks for fifteen plus years until his early medical retirement.

In his retired life, Fred J aka Bad Bubba aka Underdogg was a man of many passions. He loved the simple joys of fishing, auto racing, trail-riding, computer building, attending CB breaks and key-down competitions. He enjoyed taking country drives and having gatherings with his longtime buddies' Cliford “Wulf” Henry, Marilyn “Cookie” Gardner and Londell “Dell” Hayden. He was an avid statewide back-roads traveler, enjoying the thrill of new places and many days could be found socializing at “the park” with friends and fellow CBer's. Whether broadcasting on his prized cb rig, racing, hanging out with friends or just lending a hand to someone in need, Bubba had a spirit of generosity that defined him.

He was preceded in death by his father, beloved mother, sister Dorothy Miles, son Extavias West, two of his daughter's Joycelyn Golden and Shanita Hart, step-brother Clarence Jones, Jr., and brother from another mother Michael Hayden.

He is survived by his special-friend Diann Jones, his daughter Shannon Strange, his brother Harry Mitchell, Jr., step-sister Brenda Robinson, in-law Danny Rogers, soul-brothers Cliford “Wulf” Henry, Londell Hayden and Mark “Short Stack” Gipson, grand children, great-grand children, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He also leaves behind his beloved and close niece and nephews, Chynika Foster, Fred Carrington and Chris Jackson respectively.

Freddy’s life was marked by a deep love for family and friends with an unbridled passion for helping others and a zeal for living life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
