Gladys Halton

September 27, 1958 — November 25, 2015

Gladys Madene Halton   was born September 27, 1958, to the parentage of Mr. Eugene Halton Jr. and Mrs. Vernell Halton of Dallas, Texas.  Both parents preceded her in death.  She is the fourth child of seven siblings.  She was also preceded in death by two brothers; Leonard and Lester Taylor.

Gladys had many challenges to overcome throughout her life.  She was born deaf, she could not talk, neither could she walk; and had several other medical problems.  She had so many until the doctors had given up on her living long, and stated that she would be in a vegetated state most of her life.    Oh, but God gave her a praying grandmother name Nettie, who prayed three times a day for Gladys and anointed her legs with oil every day.  Nettie believes that her granddaughter, Gladys would walk some day by believing and have faith in God.  At the age of four (4) Gladys started walking.

She attended Mexia State School for the disable from the age of thirteen (13) years old until she was twenty-eight (28) years old.  In 1986, she was placed in the Dallas County MHMR- Group Home.  While there she was taught and trained in their workshop for four (4) years on how to perform miner jobs to the best of her ability.  She later worked at the Spaghetti Warehouse for three (3) years, as the silverware wrapper.  This was a position she received through the work program at the group home.

Gladys was a part of a special needs program at First Baptist of Downtown Dallas before her stroke.  In 2009, Rev. David Henderson, Jr., Pastor of Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, gave Gladys the right hand of fellowship to accept Jesus Christ as her personal savior, while she was in the Nursing Home.

She had a stroke in 2009, and went through rehab.  Some progress was made but not enough for her to become active again.  She was later placed in Golden Acres Nursing Home for daily care, where she remained until her death.

Gladys Madene Halton leaves to cherish her memories and her life; Sisters:  Cassandra Green and Vanetta Halton; Brothers:  Ralph Halton and Dudley Halton; Stepmother: Billie Halton; Uncle: Ralph Halton, and a host of relatives and friends.
