Born March 19, 1964, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Mattie and Earl Brown Jr. Gloria had a smile that would light up a room. She was a wife, mother, sister, friend and a child of God.
Gloria accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert E. Murphy. She was a faithful servant and loved the Lord. She was a true blessing to her family and many others. She remained an active member of Mt. Pisgah, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer and Director of Youth, until her death.
Gloria received her formal education in the Dallas Independent School District. She received her high school diploma from H. Grady Spruce where she was class president and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1982. She also received Spruce’s highest award given at that time, The Outstanding Apache Award.
She had a long productive career as a Medical Transcriptionist at Baylor, UT Southwest, and most recently Cooper Clinic. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Earnest Ray Brown and Terry Bernard Brown. She leaves to mourn her husband, Gregory L. Smith; her son, Darian Rogers; daughter, Melanie White; sisters, Debra Hill (Durrand), Earline Sturns and Labonne Johnson (Terry); brothers, Nathaniel Brown and James Earl Brown; her best friend, Janice Wilson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
