Gwendolyn “Renée” Moss, 69, a beloved mother, mentor, and friend to many, passed away on February 28, 2025. She was born on August 4, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA. Her parents, Emma Celestine Johnson and Charles Johnson, loved her dearly. Renée’s gift for giving and kindness touched the lives of her husband, children, colleagues, friends, extended family, and countless others in her community and beyond. She was a cherished matriarch and loving spouse to her husband of 49 years, Charles Edward Moss, Sr. She adored her children and grandchildren; and anyone who knew her would say her greatest joy and proudest achievement are her two sons, Charles Edward Renald Moss, II and Renicke Reshaud Moss. She had a keen sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to crack a joke or make a witty comment that left everyone around her laughing. Renée never met a stranger, talked to everyone, and would not hesitate to share an interesting story, wise advice, or her opinion- whether you wanted it or not and without mincing words. She would often ask “what did you say?” and then give you some straight talk! As a young woman she loved music, dancing, and the arts. In high school she was a majorette and played the flute in the marching band. Throughout her life she enjoyed shopping; delighted in watching football and loved grooving to HBCU band half-time shows. She was a hard worker and had a career with the federal government spanning 37 years before she retired. Most of all, she was a woman of unwavering faith and a loving mother.
To cherish her memory, Renée is survived by her husband, Charles Moss, Sr.; their two children, Charles E.R. Moss, II, and Renicke Moss (Shaneka Marks Moss); daughter-in-law, Regina Moss; grandchildren, Channing, Madison, Noah, and Christian; her brother Myron Johnson, her sister Linda Ferrell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Renée’s celebration of life will be held on March 11 at the Lincoln Funeral Home Chapel in Dallas, TX. The family encourages guests to share their cherished memories and stories about Renée in the online guestbook to ensure that her legacy of faith, love, humor, and togetherness continues for generations to come.
