Herman Knighten was born in Marshall,TX to the late Tom and Martha Knighten on March 22, 1942. He attended Ebenezer Community School, J.H. Moore Middle School and Pemberton High School. Herman later married Ms.Bertha Knight and to this union four children were born.
Herman united with the Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age under the late Rev. A.W. Wright Sr. In his later years he united with the Real Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor Michael Fisher. Herman wanted to be baptized again and Pastor Fisher did that for him, his sister Verdell Fisher and his niece Adrian Fisher-Nolley of Fort Worth were present.
He was employed by Marshall Tile Company and also worked for his oldest brother Melvin Knighten.
Herman enjoyed playing the guitar and the harmonica, along with playing crossword puzzles and cards.
Preceded him in death: son Herman Kinghten Jr., Parents: Tom and Martha Smith-Knighten, his brothers: Melvin, Sinclair, Mandell and Calvin Knighten, and sister Beatrice Wilson.
Herman leaves to cherish his memory, daughters: Beverly Knox of Tyler TX, Hazel L. Williams (Harold) of Marshall TX and Debra Morris of Marshall, TX; brothers: his twin Sherman Knighten (Peggy) of Dallas, TX; Henry Knighten (Barbara) of Dallas, TX; Robert L. Jessie (Laura) of Houston, TX; sister: Verdell Knighten Fisher of Fort Worth, TX and eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
