The Lord began ?ordering Isabel?s steps? on January 5, 1919, in Nacogdoches, Texas, when Reverend James McChristian and his wife Carrie Mae Burks McChristian welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. They named her Isabella, after James? sister Bella McChristian, who quickly became little Isabella?s favorite aunt. Isabel enjoyed a happy childhood in Nacogdoches on the McChristian family acreage. On warm days in the summer she could be found working or playing at the edge of a creek on her family?s property as she watched her brazen brothers Roy and Jimmy jump from rocks and dive in. Always the nurturer, Isabel felt it was her responsibility to remain at the shore?s edge so that she could quickly sprint for help if her brothers dove too deep and were injured.
The McChristian family valued education and James McChristian insisted his daughter attend his alma mater, Butler College in Tyler, Texas. Isabel quickly adapted to college life at Butler where she studied music and developed into a notable lyric soprano. Isabel showcased her musical talent while performing at Baptist churches, associations, conventions, assemblies, and other colleges in East Texas.
After college, Isabel moved to Dallas, Texas. She married and gave birth to her strong son, William Henry Glaze. Almost ten years later, Isabel gave birth to her beloved daughter Marilyn Elder. During Isabel?s child rearing years, her mother Carrie became ill and Isabel became her mother?s primary care giver. She worked diligently to provide for her family.
Isabel joined Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in the 1970?s and could be heard singing her favorite song ?Order My Steps,? in the church choir or from her seat in the second row of the congregation on any given Sunday. Isabel thoroughly enjoyed attending church services.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Two children Reverend William Glaze, Sr., M.D. (Sheila) of Lewisville, TX and Marilyn Tarver of Mesquite, TX; eight grandchildren Christopher Glaze (Nancy) of Minneapolis, MN, Becky Glaze Blackmon (Kenneth) of Dallas, TX, Rev.
