Jimmie James Smith was born on May 18, 1926 in Gainesville, Texas. She was the second child of Rev. Jimmy James Johnson and Ethel Chenault Johnson.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Gainesville, Texas pastored by her father.
Jimmie was educated in the Gainesville Public Schools and she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Jimmie was valedictorian of her class. She attended Prairie View A&M University.
Jimmie united in marriage to Harry Lee Smith in June of 1946. To that union seven children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Ethel Johnson; husband, Harry Smith; son, Anthony Smith, Sr.; brothers, Ulysses Johnson, Lyndon Johnson.
Jimmie leaves to cherish her everlasting memory: Four daughters, Beverly Long (Joseph) Desoto, TX, Janice Smith, Garland, TX, Chandra Campbell, Dallas, TX; Jacqueline Smith, Dallas,TX, two sons, Tillman Smith (Luria) Desoto, TX, Harry Smith, Jr. (Gwen) Dallas, TX; two sisters, Helen Wilks, Salinas, CA, Irene Garrett, Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
