John Wesley Carroll, Jr. was born on February 14, 1946,
in Dallas, Texas, to the parentage of John Wesley
Carroll, Sr. and Myrtice Inez Stevenson Dixon.
He attended school in Dallas, graduating from Booker T.
Washington High School at the age of 16.
In 1963, John enlisted in the United States Navy. While
in the Navy, he returned to Dallas, where he later married
Fay Mayes. From this thirteen-year union, five children were
born.
John retired from the Navy in 1983 as a Master Chief
Nuclear Serviceman. He moved to West Dallas, where he
became a postman, and met Marilyn Hampton. He remained
in West Dallas for twenty-eight years until his health failed
him.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley
Carroll, Sr.; his mother, Myrtice Inez Stevenson Dixon; his
brother, Curtis Lynch; his uncle, Ruben Stevenson; and his
love, Marilyn Hampton.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children: John
III (Chandrea) Carroll of Houston, Texas, Chaniell
(Asadi) Shamsid-Deen of Dallas, Texas,
Curtis (Juliana) Carroll of New Orleans,
Louisiana, and Dana (Ernest)Riley of New
Orleans, Louisiana; twelve grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and
a host of other relatives and
