Mrs. Johnnie Mae Goss Wooten was born September 26, 1931 to the parentage of Phillip Goss and Fannie Slaughter Goss in Avinger, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Wooten Jr. and sister Mable Slaughter Baker. Johnnie was the quintessential mother, mentor, nurturer, and loyal friend.
As a toddler Johnnie moved to Dallas with her family, and grew to become a very good student with an excellent attendance record which evidenced her enthusiasm for learning. She confessed Christ as her savior at an early age. She became a member of Greater New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, and later Christian Builders Baptist Church in Dallas. In both churches she served on the Usher Board, Choir, and as a Sunday School Teacher until her health failed. As an editor for the Southwestern Bell Yellow pages Division in Downtown Dallas; she worked faithfully there for thirty plus years, until her retirement. Johnnie had a bubbly and charming demeanor always willing to befriend her colleagues and anyone else. The term “never met a stranger” describes her to a tee. Her failing health took a downward spiral about 15 years ago until God called her home on March 18, 2015.
She leaves to cherish her memory; two children Vivian Wooten and Stanley Wooten of Dallas, TX, three goddaughters, Rachel McClendon, Debra Wooten, Shirley Smith all of Dallas, TX. She was blessed with four grandchildren; Nicole Whitmore Wooten (Silver Springs MD), Marcella Wooten (Fairfax, VA), Kerwin Wooten(Frisco, TX), and Artis Wooten(Cedar Hill, TX); four great-grandchildren; Kessler Wooten, Taris Pittmon, Jaylon Wooten, Jordan Watson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and close friends from coast to coast.
