Juanita McMillian, 89, born July 12, 1925, in Teague, Texas, to
the parentage of Lucille Baty-High and Theodore Scott, both who
preceded her in death. Juanita was reared by her stepfather, Benny
High, who also preceded her in death. Juanita was united in marriage with
Lenzo McMillian, and they lived many years in the Dallas area while
raising their family. Lenzo preceded her in death. Juanita passed away
peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, August 31, 2014, at Christian
Care Nursing Home in Mesquite, Texas.
Juanita leaves to cherish her memories: her only living beloved son,
Richard McMillian; her daughter-in-law, Jermell; and a former daughter-
in-law, Veta Springer, who for many years served as her primary caregiver,
and whom she loved as her own daughter. Juanita was later placed in a
nursing home by the state when she could no longer live safely in a home
environment. She also leaves to cherish her memories: her niece, Rosalind
Stepp of Garland, Texas, who lovingly administered and advocated for her
as she aged and her health declined while in the nursing home.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her grandchildren who she loved and
doted over: Amber, Michiel, Jr., Richard, Jada, Marquita, Benjamin, Jr., Joshua,
Raymond, Brittney and Trinika; great-grandchildren, Qunicy-Darnell,
Moses, Cameron, Sanaa, Sierra, Christian, Crystal, Jaedyn, Christian,
Makayla, Ava, and Mariah, all living in the Dallas area.
Juanita also leaves to cherish her memories, her twelve siblings: Opal
King of Garland, Texas; Theodore R. Scott of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Eloise
Shiver of Oakland, California; Willis Scott, Graham Scott, Franklin
Scott, Fannie Roberson, Joe Scott, Lawrence Scott, Inez McClendon, and
Kenneth Scott, all residing in Waco, Texas; Oliver Scott of Houston, Texas;

one brother-in-law, James Shivers of Oakland, California.
Juanita completed her education at Booker T Washington High School
in Teague, Texas. She worked as a cook until her retirement. Juanita
was a devoted Church of Christ member. She will be greatly missed by
cousins, nieces and nephews in Teague, her family, church members and
friends. She will be remembered for her wonderful spirit and laughter, her
feistiness, non-stop spiritual singing, her ability to keep herself entertained,
her enjoyment of cooking and eating different foods, and her love of yams,
stating that they were "yammy delicious ".
Juanita was also preceded in death by her loving son, Michiel
McMillian, Sr., daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn McMillian, stepmother,
M.D. Scott, fondly called Dea; and brother, Bobbie Scott.
Special thanks to her church family, Church of Christ of Hutchins, who
continuously visited her in the nursing home.
