Katherine Louise King was born in Selma, Alabama, on February 14,1942 to John Curtis Green and Lucy Mae Little. She left us peacefully on February 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and determination.
A graduate with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Katherine had a distinguished career as a state comptroller in Mobile, Alabama, where her professional skills and work ethic earned her respect and admiration. But it was her vibrant spirit and boundless energy that made the most lasting impact on those who knew her.
Katherine had a passion for physical challenges, participating in numerous marathons and triathlons. Whether on land or in water, she embraced the challenge with unrelenting enthusiasm. As a member of a yacht club, she loved the open water and the freedom it brought her, while kayaking was a favorite pastime that allowed her to connect with nature. One of her most cherished memories was a solo trip to Alaska, where she experienced the vast beauty of the wilderness, a testament to her independent and adventurous soul.
Known for her feisty personality and infectious energy, Katherine had a way of lighting up any room. Her zest for life was truly remarkable, and she lived each day with a spirit of adventure that was contagious to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Katherine cherished both of her two daughters Darice Guerra and Cheryl Mccain, who were the greatest joys of her life. She was a loving mother, fiercely devoted to her family, and her legacy of strength, love, and vitality will live on through them.
Though she has passed, the memories and love Katherine gave to us will forever remain in our hearts. We will remember her as a woman who embraced life fully, who never gave up, and whose energy and spirit continue to inspire us.
She is preceded in death by, Raymond Green; his wife, Carolyn Green; her sister, Sherry Green; her husband, Albert Meyhardie; her brother, Ronnie Green; and her sister, Sheila Green.
Katherine is survived by her daughters, Darice Guerra (husband, Joseph Guerra Sr.), and Cheryl McCain (husband Scott), as well as her grandchildren: Joseph Ruben Guerra Jr., Andrea Guerra, Jennifer Guerra, Nicholas Arron Guerra, Harleigh Mariah Guerra, Michael Gilbert, Sara McCain, Ian McCain (and his partner, Sarah Miller) and Michael (and his partner, Maddie Bienavides), and great-grandchildren, Lilianna E. Her love for her family was boundless, and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest in peace, Katherine. Your memory will live on forever in our hearts.
