Lester Henson Jr. 83, passed away on September 30, 2024 at his home in Mesquite, Texas. He was born on October 23, 1940, in Hemphill, Texas, the 3rd of 16 children to Lester Hinson Sr. and Italy (Lee) Hinson.
Lester and his siblings grew up in Hemphill, Texas. He was originally raised in the Methodist church faith, then later became a member at Bethlehem Primitive upon moving to Dallas.
He graduated from Thomas Johnson High School in Hemphill, Texas in 1959. After high school he moved to Dallas and began a career in Transportation and continued to work in that industry until retirement. He was the recipient of numerous medals and awards in recognition for outstanding service from Teamsters, Yellow Freight, and many other organizations.
Lester married Jessie Mae Fairfax in May of 1960 in Dallas, Texas. They remained married until her passing in 1987. From this union they were blessed with three girls, Sharon Elaine Henson (preceded in death 2006), Marilyn Denise Henson, and Tonya Rene Henson (preceded in death October 1971).
Lester was an active member of Teamsters Union until he retired from Truck Driving. He enjoyed traveling, rare coins, watch collecting, and watching football (particularly the Dallas Cowboys).
Lester was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Italy Hinson Sr.; 9 siblings, (James, Curtis, Bill, Roy, Gaylean, Priscilla, and 3 others as infants); and great grandson, Jeremiah Dibbles.
Those left to cherish Lester’s memories are his partner, Mae of Dallas, Texas and her daughter Chloe; his daughter, Marilyn Henson; brothers and sisters, Arnell, Bonnie, Emma Lou, Herbert Wayne, Jimmy Charles, and Betsy Ann; 4 grandchildren, Pamela, Sadarin, Jamaar and Jessica; 8 great-grandchildren, Mauraza, Paedyn, Jamaar Jr., Elijah; seven Zen, Cali, Ariana, A’ja, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral service for Lester will be held Tuesday October 8, 2024 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 8100 Fireside Drive Dallas, Texas 75217 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Lincoln Cemetery. The wake will be held at Lincoln Memorial Chapel, 8100 Fireside Drive, Dallas, Texas on Monday, October 7, 2024 from 5:00pm – 7pm.
