Ms. Lillie Berry

January 28, 1926 — November 29, 2014

Lillie Bernadine Williams Berry was born on Thursday, January 28, 1926 (the eighth child of ten children) to Harry and Maude Williams in Glenmora, Louisiana.

Her formal education began in Louisiana, then continuing her education after moving to Dallas, Texas with her family, graduating from Lincoln High School.

Lillie accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age joining Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church along with her family.  While at Hopewell, Lillie participated in various areas of the church throughout her service to the Lord.

During her teenage years, she met Lee Andrew Berry whom she later married February 9, 1946.  To this union eight children were born (five sons and three daughters).

Along with her husband, Lillie enjoyed worship services and was fully submitted and committed to serve wherever she was needed.  She enjoyed attending various revivals within the city and travel with the church when possible. During her active membership, she served as Deaconess President, Choir soloist/member and assisted in other church capacities and functions. She enjoyed many years of fellowship while continuing to guide and worship with her family forming lifelong friendships. Lee and Lillie were consistent in attendance in support of the ministry and other church fellowships.

Along with her close-knit siblings, Lillie helped to pass down what was taught by their mom; faith in God, a close family bond, and encouragement to reunite and remain connected to other family members whether near or far.  Those who knew her would often comment on her faithfulness and commitment to her family.  Lillie loved her family. She was lovingly called “Madear” by her children who deeply loved, cherished and celebrated her.  Her friendships nurtured during her earlier years still remain.  She had a sweet spirit and was very soft-spoken in manner which made her easy to talk to about problems and concerns.  Many secrets were shared with her and Lillie remained true to her word; a confidant to many and to her children.

Employed with Industrial Tile and Uniform and later Victor Costa, Fashion Designer where she later retired.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Anita Berry Andrews, siblings, Alberta Davis, Bessie Clark, Claude Williams, Elizabeth Cross, Alma Shankle, Eunice Lacy, Freddie Williams and Eugene Williams.

She is survived by her sons: Lee Berry, Jr., Bernard (Renita) Berry, Malcolm Berry, Byron (Beverly) Berry, Craig Berry and daughters: Barbara (LeRoy) Clemons and Debra (Richard) Graves;  18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, sister: Ruth Earvin; sister-in-law: Pennie Williams, and many dear and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other close family and friends.
