Louis King Washington was born September 1, 1924 in Wilmer, Texas to Walter and Ada Washington. As a young boy, Louis attended N. W. Harley Grammar School. He accepted Christ at an early age at Golden Gate Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.
On October 10, 1943, Louis married Helen Marie Davis and to this union they shared three children. In the summer of 1943, Louis enlisted in the United States Army. He served with the 1311th Engineer Regiment in the Philippine Islands as a carpenter during World War II. He was granted an honorable discharge January of 1946. Upon returning to civilian life, Louis began working at Jack Housman in shipping and receiving.
In 1998, after 56 years of marriage, his wife, Helen, preceded him in death. At this time, Louis changed his church membership to Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He served on the Senior Usher Board, attended Sunday School and worked as the church’s custodian until his health began to fail.
On the evening of January 19, 2015, God called Louis to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, his son-in-law Don Gillis Sr, his aunt Ida Hurd, and his grandsons Julius Alexander and Roy Epting III.
Left to cherish his memories are his children: Mary Epting, Doris Gillis, James Dean, LaShon Washington and a beloved son-in-law, Roy Louis Epting Jr; niece Lois Stewart; eleven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
