Mattie Lavada Jackson "GRANNY" was born in Smith County in the small town of Lindale, Texas, the daughter of the late Coleman and Nora Randall Riggs. Mattie joined Friendship C.M.E Church at the age of 9 years old. She later would move to Mineola, Texas and unite with East Chapel C.M.E. Church.
Mattie attended public school in Mineola, Texas and later moved to Dallas, Texas in 1941. While living in Dallas she met Marvin K. Jackson the love of her life. They were devoted to each other for over 32 years. Mattie joined Ezell Chapel C.M.E. Church where she faithfully served on the Stewardess Board, Usher Board and Food Committee.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, father Coleman, mother Nora, sister Ethel, and step son Royer Williams.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory two nephews J. D. (Sonja), and Maurice (Sherlyon) Weldon both of Tyler, Texas; four nieces Dorothy Mejia (Manuel) Lindale, Texas; Ethel Mae Weldon of Tyler, Texas; Virginia Monroe (Willie Dean) Witchia Falls, Texas and Geneva Hyman of Amarillo, Texas. Mattie also leaves to cherish her memory grandson Ronald (Ronnie) Lindsey and granddaughter Jannet Holmes-Marshall both of Dallas, Texas; a devoted nephew Freddie (Buddy) Jackson Compton, California and goddaughter Francis Barnes of Dallas, Texas. Mattie leaves a very special roommate at Laurenwood Nursing Home, Ms. Sara Askew from Chicago, Illinois. Special thanks to Nurse Valorie Jackson, CNA Elizar Chavez, Hospice Nurse April Ortiz and Hospice CNA Ms.Willie Simmons also at Laurenwood Nursing Home. She also leaves over 100 nephews, nieces and other relatives.
