Rev. Melvin Dews

September 10, 1933 — August 4, 2016

This earth was blessed with the birth of Revered Melvin Bryant (MB) Dews who was born September 10, 1933 in Tyler, Texas to parents Revered Bryant Dews and Mary Clark Dews.  He was a sibling of fourteen brothers and sisters: who all preceded him in death. Two surviving siblings – Revered Osie Charles Dews and Lorine Dews.
Rev. Melvin Dews received his formal education in Tyler, Texas. Graduating from Emmitt Scott High School and went on to attend and received his education from Texas College of Tyler, Texas.  Followed by attending and received his advanced degree from Southern Bible Institute.  He served in the Military from 1954 – 1956 and was a member of the Army of the United States.
In 1956 he married his remarkable and loving wife Betty Jo Terry Dews, in marriage they had five children and were married just over 50 years before she preceded him in death.
He was employed and retired from UT Southwestern Medical over 25 years as a Research Technician of Biochemistry.
Active in the church for many years as a Deacon, Minister before called to Pastor. Pastor of Westmoreland Baptist Church in Dallas Texas for over 30 years, very dedicated and loved his church family.  Rev. Dews was also a part of many Associations including the Greater Rising Star District, Sunday School Baptist Convention and many others in which he held office.
He leaves to celebrate his homecoming and a wait resurrection: Five children, Larry Ray Dews, Chandler Texas(Vernell Dews) Mary Ann Dews, Dallas Texas, Gregory Bernard Dews, Dallas Texas, Michelle Lynn Dews, Little Elm Texas and David Bryant Dews, Sr, Dallas Texas.  Seven grandchildren, Antonio McKenzie, Anthony Dews, Marquita Bigham Dews, Tenisha Wright Dews, David Dews, Jr, Sidney Dews and Tyson Dews.  Four great grandchildren.  As well as a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
