Melvin (Brown Sugar) Johnson, 68, received his reward of eternal rest on Saturday, May 20,2015 at Mesquite Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Melvin was born to the late Clarence and Neville Johnson in Jacksonville, Texas. He received his education in Jacksonville School District, graduating from Fred Douglas High School in 1964. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served our country as an FSH-Medical Corpsman until 1967, continued his education and earning many recognitions and awards, including the Defense Service Medal, Marksman (m-14 rifle) National Recognition.
Melvin was employed at various places after his service in the Army ended: Parkland Hospital, the VA Medical Center, and was a local apartment manager for a while. He also owned and operated two clubs in "Sunny South Dallas, " his most notable being (Club Spotlight) "The Brown Sugar Show" Some of Melvin many interest included Disc jockeying, Barbequing, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bertha Hawkins of Denver, CO. Those remaining to cherish his memories included one son, Melvin Johnson, Jr.; stepson, Kendrick Holman; spouse, Gloria Holman Johnson; sister Peggy Davis of Dallas, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews, all of Dallas, Texas and Gerald Hawkins of Denver, Co.; brother in law, Windell (Connie) Anderson of Austin, Texas, Gerrick, Charles and Tommy Butler, all of Dallas, Texas, and Ken and Glean Anderson of Dallas, Texas; sister in law, Donna (Dennis Sessions of Dallas, Texas and Granddaughter, Zhira of Dallas, Texas.
