James K. Hampton was born on September 10, 1937 in Winona, Texas to the parents of Spurgeon Hampton and Artnice Amos Hampton. He received his formal education in the Winona Independent School District. James confessed his faith in Christ at a very early age and united with the Starville Baptist Church of Winona, Texas.
On October 16, 1955, James united in Holy Matrimony to the late Virine Timmons Hampton and moved to Dallas, Texas. The following year, the newlyweds began creating a family. They were the proud parents of 3 lovely children, 2 sons and 1 daughter.
In 1960, Deacon Hampton and family joined Greater Shiloh Baptist Church. The family later relocated from South Dallas to the Singing Hills addition and united with the St. Stephens Baptist Church. St. Stephens later closed their doors, and the couple chose St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church as their church home. Deacon Hampton served under the leadership of Pastor C. J. R. Phillips, Jr. and remained an active, faithful, and dedicated member until his health failed. While at St. Phillips, Deacon Hampton served as Chairperson of the Deacon Board, Chairperson of the Pastor Supplement, Teacher of Church School and Grief Ministry and wherever he saw a need. He loved his pastor and church family.
Deacon Hampton was a proud entrepreneur. He owned and operated the Hampton Used Car Business for many years. Later he became a school crossing guard for the Dallas Independent School District, where he would retire.
