Kammillia Johnson (Kay) was the baby of nine children born to the late Mr. Shelby and Mrs. Eugene (Arnette) Dansby. Kammillia was born on Saturday, June 06, 1936 on the Glenfawn plantation, which is now considered Cushing, Texas.
Kammillia was born into a family of sharecroppers, joining the family business at the early age of 6. She received her high school education at Laneville High School, located in Rusk County, Texas. She was part of the graduating class of 1957. Upon high school graduation, Kammillia moved to Dallas, Texas that same year. Finding work at the former First National Bank building, she met and fell deeply in love with a young, tall, and strikingly handsome young man by the name of James W. Johnson. They married on June 27th, 1959 and remained an inseparable force of love for approximately 55 years.
Kammillia had 3 devout aspects to her life – her religion, her family, and her gardening. November of 1968 came her first and only child, whom she nicknamed ‘Tooka-Baby’. She loved and spoiled her son deeply until her last breath. Her most sacred profession was that of a Mother, Grandmother (nicknamed ‘Granny K’), and Housekeeper. In 1973, after a year of intensive Bible study, she was officially baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. With the fire and passion similar to that of Paul the Apostle, she served our God Jehovah faithfully for over 41 years, having thousands of hours of service in HIS name. Kammillia was an avid gardener, having a ‘magic touch’ to bring life to any plant ever created. Her harvests were bountiful, and her love of life was eagerly displayed through her flowers.
Kammillia fell asleep in death at 7:21 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 under the comfort of our God Jehovah, her loving family, and close friends. To her family, one sibling remains. The matriarch and most beloved sister, Ianthia Harris of Dallas, Texas. She is preceded in death by 7 siblings: Opal Adell of Dallas Texas, George Milton Dansby of Cushing Texas, Calvin Thomas Dansby of Cushing Texas, Naomia Sheppard of Seagoville Texas, Ida Lee Robertson of Dallas Texas, Claudie Dell McCall of Dallas Texas, and Lois Polk of Cushing Texas.
Kammillia leaves to praise her life a husband, James W. Johnson; a most beloved son, Andre Johnson; a devoted daughter-in-law, Rosa L. Johnson; two beloved grandchildren, Caitlyn Marie and Caleb Bryce Johnson; a beloved sister, Ianthia Harris; a dedicated and loving friend and sister of the Witnesses, Katie Burrell; a most special and loving niece, Inett Lewis, and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
