Naomi Martin Young was born September 17, 1932, to the parentage of Barry Martin & Callie Cockerham in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She moved to Dallas in 1951. She worked at Stockton Factory for many years. She also worked in the Food & Catering business.


Naomi accepted Christ at an early age. After relocating to Dallas, she began worshiping at True Light Baptist Church and later became a lifelong member of Greater Memorial Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Danny R. Cox, where she was a faithful member of the Season Saints. She joyfully served the Lord until she departed this earthly life.

Naomi “Big Momma” Young transitioned from this earthly life on July 26, 2021. She was an only child. She was preceded in death by her parents, Barry Martin, and Callie Cockerham Presley.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four children; daughter, Gwen Simmons; sons; Louis Evans, Gary Evans (Beverly) and Michael Young. Her precious grandchildren, Donald Ericks (Nakeya), Asia Evans, Gary T. Evans, Ernest Evans, Lamar Young and Desiree Young. Five great-grandchildren, Brittney McNeary, London Edwards, Djuan Spigner, Takeya Spigner and Keyauna Linwood. Two great-great grandchildren, Chase McNeary and Kash McNeary. A host of other relatives, friends and church family that will always cherish her and their memories with her.
