Obituary: An Epitome of Life, Love, and Legacy
Oscar David Matts was born the eldest son of Armon Horace Nelson Matts and Leola Lee Walker on August 23, 1920 in Celina TX. His family later moved to the Dallas area where he attended public school. It was during this time due to no record of birth, food rationing requirements and census record keeping, his last name changed to match the head of household. He would be known as Oscar David Williams for the rest of his life.
He shared numerous stories of how at the age of nine, he helped provide for his mother, brother and two sisters. Growing up around his grandmother he learned to cook, clean, garden, farm, hunt and fish. The credit for his survival was always directed toward God, love of family, obedience to parents, and showing respect toward elders and others in authority.
Oscar entered the U. S. Navy in 1943 during World War II. He was chief cook to the seamen and special cook for the officers on board ship. During this time of serving our country he also met the future president of the United States, John F. Kennedy.
His pride and joy from a previous marriage were his two sons Oscar Jr. and retired judge, James Curtis Williams of Terrell. He later met and married Margaret Odell Bolts and together they were the proud parents of five.
