Paul Dennis Carter, 63, of Dallas, Texas, joyfully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 17, at 10:30 a.m., at the Prestonwood Baptist Church Dallas campus. The family will receive guests immediately following the service.
Paul was born on May 9, 1950, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, to Frank and Nancy Carter. Paul received Jesus Christ as his Savior on December 4, 1974, while serving as a police officer in Olathe, Kansas. He surrendered to His Lord?s call to ministry in January 1979, and served as pastor, interim pastor, pulpit supply, and other ministerial positions to churches in western Wyoming, Texas, and Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from the Criswell Center for Biblical Studies (now Criswell College) and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University.
He has left a legacy of a life lived serving his Lord that will influence generations to come. His commitment to trusting Christ's leading was seen in his willingness to go when called to serve small, hurting churches. He was committed to encouraging a faith in and love for the Lord in his children and grandchildren. The verse he treasured was Jeremiah 33:3, ?Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.?
Paul met Linda Wennihan, who was to be the love of his life, and married her on September 12, 1971. They have been actively involved at the Prestonwood Baptist Church Dallas campus for the last year. He also served in various capacities at churches in the Dallas area, including Cornerstone Baptist Church, Corsicana, First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park, Richardson, and First Baptist Church Dallas.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years; daughter, Erica Jones; son, Alan Carter, and his wife, Elizabeth; three grandchildren: Brianna Jones, Oak Carter, and Isla Carter; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Curran; sister, Janice Fischer, and her husband, Conrad (?Tiny?); brother, Brian Carter, and his wife, Emily; two nieces, one nephew, and many friends.
