Pearl Lee Jefferson was born August 8, 1924 to Dennis Hayes and Mary Modkins in Marlin, Texas. She came to Colorado City, Texas with her family at an early age for a “cotton pick” and lived there until relocating to Arlington, August 1, 2008.
Pearl united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and was a faithful member until her move to Arlington, Texas. She was the president of the Senior Choir for 20+ years, served with the culinary staff as well as numerous other committees. She was involved with many community organizations, such as Keep Colorado City Beautiful, Christmas in April, Housing Authority Board; and was awarded the Key to the City of Colorado City. Pearl attended D.W. Wallace School and was a maid for several families, including Dr. Jene and Bobbie Steakley for over 50 years. She united with Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church shortly after moving to Arlington,Tx in 2008 where she was an active member and participated in the Thursday/Senior Sunday School classes and the GCMBC Women’s Choir. April 28, 2015, Pearl suffered a stroke, and the result was the onset of Alzheimer’s. She fought this horrible disease with dignity and never lost her faith.
On December 17, 2016; Pearl was called home to be with God. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rutherford Jefferson, and her sons—Charles Belvin and Howard Belvin, 1 sister, Rosie Hall, and two grandsons—Robert and Jamal.
Pearl leaves to cherish and mourn her passing, a sister, Vickie Thomas of Odessa, Texas. 1 daughter, Brenda Russell of Arlington, Texas. 4 sons, Sam Modkins(Linda) of San Angelo, Texas. Calvin Belvin of Big Spring, Texas. Weldon Jefferson of Lubbock, Texas and T.J.(Pam) of San Angelo. 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grand children, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pearl’s precious memories will forever be cherished by the hearts she touched during her life.
