Obituary: Philip Stanley Brooks was born June 3, 1927 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of Clara Lizzie Farr - Gilbert and Jeffery Philip Stanley Brooks. Philip was the youngest of two children As a child Philip was a Dallas ISD student and graduated from Booker T Washington High School. He continued his education at Prairie View A&M University where he not only obtained his Bachelor’s Degree but also met his wife, Rose Mae “Garvice” Hayden. Philip and Garvice wed the 10th day of April in the year 1953 and to that union one child was born, Sandra Lorraine Brooks. After college he enlisted in the Army of the United States where he served his country and taught black men how to read and write. Philip was a former educator, mailman (USPS) and Occupational Therapist (Parkland Health Network). Upon retirement Philip began committing his time fully to Greater New Zion Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board until his health failed. Philip is preceded in death by his parents, his loving step-parents Bennie Gilbert (step father), Rosie Brooks (step mother); Brother, William “Yuma” Calhoun, and his devoted wife, Garvice Brooks, whom he affectionately called “His Rose He leaves to cherish his family that he adored; one daughter, Sandra L. Brooks; two granddaughters, Brandy (Roy) Watts, Sesame (Matthew) Morrison; two great-grandsons, Brandon Watts and Braydon Watts; three great granddaughters, Mattisen Morrison, Maco
