Rita Mcclenton

January 23, 1936 — August 20, 2020

Rita Faye Lacy McClenton was born January 23,1936 in Henderson, Texas to the late Albert and Annie Lacy. She enjoyed a large family of nine children of which she was the second oldest. She took on the role of taking care of the household and cooking for her siblings.

Rita attended Henderson Hill High Colored School and was an active member of the Dallas Chapter Alumni Group.

Rita was a member of Faithful Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the leadership of Pastor N.C. Sargent and served on the hospitality committee.

Rita was employed by Hutchinson Independent School District and Bishop Heights Elementary School in the Food Service Department.

Rita was an amazing cook and enjoyed catering special events for others and hosting dinner parties in her home. She was an avid Dallas Maverick fan and loved spending time with family.

Rita was in the second generation of the Lacy family legacy and was designated as the 2007 Diamond Link Honoree.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Toni Cash and two sisters Helen Lacy Sanders and Hazel Lacy Bloomer.

Rita Faye Lacy Mclenton also known as “Big Mama” leaves behind to cherish her memory three children: Gregory Preston, Sr., Melvin Stevie Preston (Evelyn), and Tyrone Preston; thirteen grandchildren: Gregory Preston, Jr. (Latonia), Quincy Preston (Jennifer), Sherrie Coleman, Yashica Preston, Joseph Jones, Steven Lorenzo Burley; Shekelia Burley, Sheketia Burley, Shanicque Preston, Erica Preston-Amos, Precious Preston, Onesimus (Quinn), Corleone Preston; fourteen great-grandchildren: Essence, Hannah, Brock, Quenton, Jr., Kenneiceya, Billziorah, Billyana, Tanya, Shabresse, Dallas, Kyri, Corey, Khalil, John; four sisters: Ree Lacy Daniels Stewart, Dollbaby Lacy Mcdowell (Admiral), Gloria Lacy Smith; Joyce Lacy Williams; two brothers: Albert Jr Lacy (Emily) and Arnlow Lacy (Judy); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
