Rita Nell Turner was born June 28, 1941 in Dallas, Texas as the first of two children of Edgar Walter Turner and Thelma Banks Turner. Rita Nell celebrated her homegoing on February 14, 2015.
Rita accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas and was very active in Christian education for the youth such as Baptist Training Union and Sunday school in the White Rock community. First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park is where Rita was a faithful member until her health began to fail but continued to watch Sunday services via internet.
After graduating from Hamilton Park High School in 1959, Rita continued her education at Prairie View A&M University where she earned a Bachelor Degree of Elementary Education.
In 1965, Rita married Clarence Melvin Robinson of Fort Worth, Texas in Fort Dix, New Jersey shortly before traveling to Orle'ans, France as Clarence served in the Army. To this union two sons were born, Sterling and Stephen who were very devoted to their mother and she was very active in their lives.
Being a sports fan, Rita won a local community league as coach of her son's soccer team and loved to watch ESPNSports Center. Rita was a big believer in education, so soon after retiring from Texas Instruments/Raytheon after 27 years, Rita returned to Prairie View A&M University to earn a Master of Education where she was also a dorm mother. For 16 years Rita was an elementary school teacher in the Richardson, Garland and Dallas school districts before her health required her to retire.
