Robert Lee Simmons was born on January 26, 1926 to Lake Simmons and Meldora Jackson in Brazoria, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, Texas. He was educated in the Bay City Texas School District. Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed at Southland Ice Company and retired from TXI Industries.
Robert was married to Ethel Johnson and to this union four daughters were born, Netra, Dorothy, Elnora and Rosie. He also had a daughter from a previous union, Marjorie.
Later in life, he married Carmen Davis who helped him raise his four daughters in the Hamilton Park community. ?Daddy,? ?Big Daddy? as known to all, was a loving father and grandfather. He loved baseball, blues, old western movies and Cadillac cars. He was a ?Snazzy Dresser.? He never met a stranger. He had conversation for everyone and easily made friends.
Robert was preceded in death by both parents; 2 brothers, Lake and Leon; 2 sisters, Willie Mae and Margaret; 2 daughters, Elnora and Netra.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories, ex-wife, Suvern Simmons and Freeman family; daughters, Marjorie Edwards, Dorothy Whitmire and Rosalie St. Andrew; grandchildren, Christopher Whitmire (Donna), LaShon Collier, Razonya Collier, Rufus Whitmire, Jr., Chandra Johnson, Carmen Trammell (Darryl), Raymona Banks (Rick) and Ray Collier, Jr. (Michelle); 16 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; first cousin, Margaret House and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
