Rutha Hamlett

February 25, 1946 — January 17, 2025

Rutha L. Hamlett, born Rutha L. Cyrus, was born February 25, 1946, in Wortham, Texas, to Jeffie Cyrus and Dorothy Lynch (Spence). She was lovingly raised by her dad; Ira Lee Lynch Sr. Rutha's kitchen was the heart of our family. She taught us not just recipes but the importance of love and togetherness. Fiercely protective and endlessly giving, she was the epitome of a mama bear and a true servant at heart. By trade, she dedicated her life as a caretaker, where she met the needs of others at the highest level. Often misunderstood due to her firm exterior, internally she was kindhearted. She will be remembered by her ability to create dishes that would have you wanting more! Rutha shared over 38 beautiful years with the love of her life, Membree "Smokie" Bobo, creating a legacy of love that will endure forever. She is preceded in death by Jeffie Cyrus (Father), Ira Lee Lynch Sr. (Daddy) Dorothy Mae Lynch (Mother), and Joe Lynch (Brother). She is survived by her siblings: Naomi Spikes, Carolyn Lynch, Barbara Ibe, Lounicese Lynch, Jackie Boutte (David), Flossie Collins, Ira Lynch, Charles Lynch, Mary Alice, Sheila Codrington, Linda McDonald, Teresa Cyrus, Barbara Curry, Bobby Cyrus, Michael Curry, CJ Curry, Jeffrey Cyrus, and Danny Cyrus. Her love lives on in her children: Jean Carter (JC), Kimberly Allen, Robert Allen, and Rodney Allen; grandchildren Marcus, Brittany, Ashley, Brandon, Tiffany (Jamar), Robert, Ashley, Calvin, Rebecca, Rodney (lil man); and 14 great-grandchildren. Mama’s legacy of love, strength, and service will forever inspire us. Though deeply missed, she will live on in our minds, thoughts, and hearts forever.
