Sammie Henderson was born on December 19, 1927 in Franklin Alabama, a rural town in Macon county. He was the seventh of 17 children born to John and Mary Henderson. He is preceded in death by his parents and 14 siblings.
The public school of Franklin Alabama educated Sammie. Following that, he completed a program course for tailors.
With a desire to serve his country, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War, which lasted from June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953. When he returned home after the war, he again wanted to further his skills. This led to him attending college and receiving a certification in horticulture.
Sammie lived for a while in Florida staying a short while in Houston. Because of Houston's climate, Dallas seemed to be a better fit for him and his health. He was a citizen of Dallas for several years until his passing.
To mourn his passing, Sammie leaves three sisters, Susie Wade, Geraldine Jackson (J.L.), Hester Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
