OBITUARY
Sedalia James Hughes was born April 27, 1929 in Marietta, Texas to the parentage of of Onie and Mance James, Sr.
Sedalia was educated in the Bethlehem public school system where she accepted Christ at an early age and attended the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and a became a member of the Eastern Star-Marietta Delight Chapter.
She relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1946, where she met and married, Robert Hughes on April 1, 1948. A blessed celebrated Union of 64 loving, dedicated years.
Sedalia was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Dallas Texas for 64 years. Sedalia served in numerous capacities on the Trustee Board, Senior Citizen and Benevolence Committee?s as well as a dedicated faithful missionary to her family , friends and most of all her community until her health began to fail and even then she continued pressing on reflecting others first.
Sedalia was employed by J.C. Penny?s as a Seamstress in the alteration department. She also volunteered at several local convalescent homes, private sitting with ill and elderly patients.
Sedalia championed many causes where her family and community were concerned. Although having no children of her own Sedalia touched the lives of many. Always stressing and supporting a need for our children to receive the benefits of a good education. She made sure that our elderly received nurturing care in their golden years. Sedalia loved people, and especially loved doting on her nieces and nephews. She instilled in us to dress for success. She believed in men having a good suit and ladies having appropriate dress attire for any occasion. Sedalia was the epitome of BOSSY. She didn't require an invite to any occasion because she invited herself.
In her absence from the body she is now present with the Lord.
Sedalia Hughes was preceded in death by her parents Mance Sr. and Onie James: brothers; R.P. James, Wentford James, Clinton James, Willie ?Shake? James, Mance James, Jr., Jerry Lemons; and sisters, Cloteal Hall and Ophelia Horsley.
Sedalia leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of sixty-four years. Robert Hughes. One brother; Clarese James (Dorothy) of Dallas, Texas, One sister; Bessie Hatten (Carl) of Marietta,Texas, three sisters-in law; Betty Jo Criss, Eddie Mae James, Los Angeles, California, Doris James, Dallas, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
