Sherman Eugene Shead ascended into Haven on November 24, 2019 at the age of 81. He was born to the parentage of Sherman Shead and Evelyn Jone on July 13, 1938 in Dallas Texas and was the only child of that union. He received and accepted Christ as his Personal Savior as a teenager.
He had to drop out of school and take care of his mother as a child due to the divorce of his parents and his mother poor health, therefore he was not able to get a formal education. Although he came from humble beginnings he went on to become a Powerful man of God. He met and married Eveline Lake at the age of seventeen and out of that union came three wonderful blessings, Ruby Neil Shead, Eugene Shead and Carolyn Ann Shead.
He entered the ministry as a young adult under the tutelage of Rev. JP Johnson at the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Red Oak Texas. It was then that God began to transform his life and lead him to his destiny. Initially he was working odd jobs just trying to make ends meet. He eventually became a janitor at the Manor House Apartments in downtown Dallas. There he met Pearline Sherman who also worked at the Manor House, they began to date and eventually got married on October 18, 1969; along with that union he became father to Frederick Earl Sherman and Reginald Dewayne Sherman.
He went on to become the pastor of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, get a job at Simmons Mattress, Company, got his GED and his Diploma form Southern Bible Institute. While pastoring and working for Simmons he injured in back and retired from Simmons and began his own janitorial services and had several buildings that he maintained for many years. When the hard labor caught up with him and he could no longer do it; he still didn’t stop. He retired from pastoring after twenty six years and to a course in lawn mower mechanics, got his certificate and started Shead Lawn Mower Repair.
Those who preceded him in death were his Mother and Father, Sons; Eugene Shead, Frederick Earl Sherman, Wife’s; Eveline and Pearline and Rever Shead.
He leaves to Cherish Sweet Memories: Uncle John Shead, Three Daughters – Gail Shead, Ruby Neil Shead, Linda Epps, Daughter-n Law- Beverly Poole, Son-Reginald Dewayne Sherman (Vickie), Thirteen Grandchildren, Thirty One, Great Grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and Friends.
