?Dr. Theodore ?Ted? Holmes (1926-2012)?
Dr. Theodore ?Ted? Holmes was born November 22, 1926 to James and Matilda Holmes in Maringouin, Louisiana. His parents, three sisters (Mattie, Mary and Carrie) and two brothers (James and Thomas) all preceded him home to glory.
Ted grew up in New Orleans in the home of his eldest brother James and his wife Ethel. He was baptized into Christianity at a young age. He graduated from Gilbert Academy in 1947. Following graduation Ted enrolled into Savannah State University where he received a Bachelor?s degree in physical education in 1952. While attending SSU Ted became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Following graduation he was inducted into the US Army where he proudly served his country for 2 years. After receiving an honorable discharge from the military in 1954, he then relocated to New York. Once in New York, Ted enrolled in NYU where he received a Master of Arts Degree in Education in 1957. While attending NYU he met and married his first wife Margaret Redd (who preceded him in death). To this union a daughter Treva and a son Kirk were born. Ted enjoyed a long, fulfilling career in education in the State of New York. During which time, he earned a Doctorate degree in Education. He just recently retired on June 30, 2011 as Assistant Principal of Hempstead Schools in New York.
Ted later married his current wife Margie Holmes on November 11, 2000. Ted and Margie were united at Memorial Presbyterian church in Roosevelt, NY, where they remained faithful members until relocating to Carrollton, TX in 2011. After relocating to Texas, Ted and Margie became active members of Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony, TX.
Ted leaves to celebrate his memory a devoted-loving wife, Margie Sylvester-Holmes, one daughter Treva, one son Kirk, step-children Michelle and Debra, son-in law Jerry, and a Grandson Christopher Russ, four (4) step grandchildren, eight(8) step great grandchildren, three(3) great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews other family and friends that loved him dearly.
