Obituary
Truman Thedro Hayes was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi on January 5, 1934 to Hozy and Addie Thames Hayes. Truman was the third of ten children. He departed this life August 30, 2013.
Truman attended Magee Elementary and High School. He joined Mary Grove Baptist Church in Mendenhall. In 1953, he entered the United States Army. Shortly after being honorably discharged in 1955, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he met his wife, Florence Mae Scott.
In his early years in Omaha, he worked at the Armour Packing Plant. While working full-time at Armour, he attended night school to obtain his heating and air conditioning license. ?Ted,? as he was affectionately known by Florence, worked for many years in this industry. He was the first African American to become a member of the (RSES) Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, a membership he held until his death. He retired from Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company in 1996. Truman was no stranger to hard work and believed in taking advantage of every opportunity. While in Omaha, in addition to working full-time, he maintained part-time jobs at the Florence Home, in his earlier years, and St. Paul United Methodist Church until 1996, as well as performing independent air conditioning and refrigeration repair work. Truman and Florence relocated to Greenville, Texas in 1996. Truman worked for the Phoenix House in Dallas, Texas until June 2010. At the time of his passing, he was a resident of the Rockwall Nursing Center in Rockwall, Texas.
Truman was preceded in death by his parents Hozy and Addie Hayes, sister Juanita Buchanan, and brothers Aaron Hayes, Wilmoth,Hayes and James Clyde Hayes. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 56 years Florence Scott Hayes; two sons Randall Hayes (Deborah) of Atlanta, GA and Ronald Hayes (Tiphanie) of Aurora, CO; a daughter Valerie Hayes of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren Bryanna Hayes of Ft. Collins, CO, Ismael Hayes and Imani Hayes both of Atlanta, GA; three brothers Rudolph Hayes, Arthur Hayes (Patricia), and Jerry Hayes (Elaine) all of Mendenhall, MS; two sisters Anita Scott of McKinney, TX and Etta Marie Smith (Archie) of Magee, MS. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, a host of other family members, and many friends.
