Verdine Moore Patton was born July 19, 1935 to the parents of Earnest Moore Sr and Thelma Mays Moore in Waskom, TX
Verdine attended the Dallas public schools where she graduated from Lincoln High School. At an early age Verdine united with the Oak Hill B.C. where she was baptized. Verdine later married Charles H Shelby Sr and to that union one son was born: Charles H Shelby Jr. After her divorce to Mr. Shelby, she married Madison Miller. After her divorce to Mr. Miller Verdine moved to Los Angeles, California to help care for her mother, there she met and Married Bruce T Patton a Merchant in the Marines on December 3, 1975.
During Verdine’s life she worked at Levines Department Store as a Sales Clerk where she retired. After moving to Los Angeles, California and back to Dallas; Verdine joined the Good Shepherd PBC under the leadership of Rev. Charles D Williams, Sr where she help to organize the Usher’s Ministry. Under her leadership the Youth Ushers were formed. Verdine loved her Pastor and wife, her church family and did her best to serve God by serving others. Wherever she saw a need, she tried to do her part. Fundraisers for her church was one of her greatest joy, she loved raising money for the Pastor and Wife anniversary, the church anniversary and the Ushers Ministry. She always had a goal she wanted to reach which she did even if she had to write a letter to California to get it done. She made it happen. Her love for God, her only son and her family kept her going. She always put others before herself. Verdine was an avid card player, she and her friends always found time to play bid-wiz or pokeno: She enjoyed fishing every now and then with her best friend Etta. Ordering out of the JC Penney catalog was the extent of her shopping spree. Verdine was educated to the extent that she read the Dallas Times Herald and the Dallas Morning News every day. Cutting out coupons was a hobby. Later in life Verdine enrolled in Eastfield Community Junior College to further her knowledge in education by taking a Math and Psychology course.
Loved-ones who preceded her in death: Her only son Charles H Shelby Jr, her parents Earnest and Thelma Moore; both brothers Earnest Moore Jr and Samuel Moore.
Those who will continue to cherish her memories: Her grandson Carlos Shelby (Christe), her great-grandson Chase Shelby (2) Sister-N-Laws Pearl Moore of Vallejo, CA and Bonnie Moore of Dallas, TX. Brother-N-Law Johnny Patton. Nieces: Rhonda Moore of Dallas, TX and Michelle Moore-Davis (Charles III) of Vallejo, CA. Nephews: Ricky Moore (Dena) and Reginald Moore of Dallas, TX and Jeffrey Moore (Darlene) of Great Lakes, IL and Earnest Moore, III (Carla) of Vallejo, CA. Uncles: George Brackins of Oakland, CA and Edward Brackins of Dallas,TX. Aunt: Georgia B Brackins of Dallas, TX. Special Cousins: Earnestine Tarrant and Mattie Holloway. 6-great nieces, 5 great nephews, 9 great-great nieces and 6 great-great nephews. A host of relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
