Viola Pouncy

September 10, 1918 — October 23, 2015

Public viewing of Mrs. Viola Beatrice Potts Pouncy will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at
the Lawrence and Marder Street Church of Christ 2500 Lawrence Dallas, Texas 752L5 from 5
to 7 p.m. The graveside funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, at 10 a.m. at
the Carver Memorial Park in Ferris, Texas lnterstate 45 South Malloy Bridge Road Exit.
Mrs. Pouncy peacefully passed away on October 23, 2015 at Baylor Hospital after a short
illness. She was 97. Her children were at her bedside.
Viola Pouncy, a woman of strength, character and faith, was the strength behind the Pouncy's
of Dallas, Texas. She was a great believer in the importance of embracing and teaching her
family history to all of her children which began in 1851. Mrs. Pouncy was a retired cafeteria
worker at St Anthony Catholic School of Dallas who raised six children after the death of her
husband Tommie in 1954. She worked tirelessly to provide a successful path for her children
to complete college or whatever career they sought and was proud of the positive impact
they made on the community in education, allied health care, the military, the postal service,
etc. Additionally, she had a strong positive influence on children and residents in her
community and was always ready to lend an ear or offer Christ-centered advice to those in
need. She modeled Christian motherhood for others to copy.
Viola Beatrice Potts was born September 10, 1918, in Grapeland, Texas. She married Tommie
Lee Pouncy of Rocky Springs Texas on December 9, 1933 on the porch of her parents home in
Grapeland, Texas. ln 1951, The Pouncy's moved to Dallas where they were active in church
and focused on raising six children George, John, Eliza, Cherry and twins Gene and Joe.
George passed away in 2007 and John passed away in 2008.
Viola Beatrice Potts Pouncy is survived by two sons and two daughters. She has 14
grandchildren, 8 great-grand children and 19 great great grandchildren. She has relatives and
friends from Texas to California.
Viola Pouncy was a faithful member of the Lawrence and Marder Street Church of Christ for
more than 60 years.
